ECO V Exhibition 2012

Recently the Eco Friendly Volunteers organised   an exhibition on Global warming, youth and Bio-diversity  at the Public Library Premises in Colombo. The theme of the event was"My Future My Country" and it was planned by the Kalani nadi Yathrees who participated in a hike which started from the origins of the Kaleni River to the place where the river meet the Indian ocean.

The Yathree have displayed photos and articles about their 12 day journey. It included about how they got prepared, their findings, their research, what did they do and many more. A former LTTE cader was also apart of the journey. During the whole hike they promoted sustainable lifestyle.
It is quite fascinating to see their results from the research that they have conducted during the hike. The oxygen level of water drop gradually from the origin to the end, suggesting that River is polluted and it is destroying the habitat. Due to extensive pollution caused by man kind some parts of the river are unbearable. This shows how humans has destroyed the environment.
They also displayed material and items which were produced from various forms of garbage. For instance they have created a bag from newspaper which could hold upto 5 kg of stuff. This could be a perfect alternative for harmful polythene shopping bags.

Overall this is a really good exhibition, anyone who visited must have learned about the environment today and what we could do to save it. ECO V should be appreciated for their work and hats off to the whole team.
