Recycling Workshop for Lyceum International School Nugegoda

A recycling program was conducted by the NRR+ 20C in collaboration with Neptune Recycle Papers to the students of Lyceum International School Nugegoda at the school premises.  It was organised by the LISMUN club .There were around 50 students taking part in this program, comprising of Scouts, Girl Guides, and members of TFC, Drama Club and the MUN club.

The main objective of the program was to create awareness about the importance of Recycling,  to society and the environment. Sikander Sabeer conducted the program, and the audience showed a keen interest towards the content. Sikander explained how making new paper cost our mother earth and how valuable it would be to recycle paper rather than just throwing it to the waste paper bin. The attendees learned a lot through the presentation. They were also shown videos about the process of Recycling paper.

After a formal presentation, Sahan Hattotuwa conducted a informal session for the attendees, where the attendees have to design a space shuttle where they will be able to survive for a long time. There were 9 groups  in total comprising students from various clubs. The Groups were given a total of 15 minutes draw the design.

It was great to see how the students got to together, interacted, worked as a team and putting some wonderful ideas on paper. The students really enjoyed this session. After they designed their space shuttle, they were given a period of 1 minute to explain their design. It was simply amazing to see the crazy ideas that have being put out by the students, some were which are quite complex, some were funny, but needless to say these ideas and design are the best that  we have seen so far in our campaign journey. The ideas were much more better than some of ideas presented by youth who are much more older than them.

It only reminds us that children hope to see a peaceful, happy future and their creativity do contain the mere  solutions which could lead to a happy, peaceful world.

After we discussed the designs of each group, we broke off for refreshments. After which the LISMUN Club showed few videos and  we had the closing remarks of the program.

This program was also a part of Project of Lyceum Nugegoda for the Green Life Project of COMUN 2012

Overall we were able to obtain our obtain and the attendees themselves were happy about the program.
