COMUN 2012 hosted a workshop on the
29th of January at the Stafford International School, Colombo. The
objectives of the workshop were to get the Youth of Sri Lanka more involved in
the need to develop sustainably, to discuss the issue of the energy crisis and
to carry out successful policy consultation for several Green Life Projects
they intended to initiate as part of the COMUN 2012 conference.
Several schools such as Stafford
International School, Lyceum International School-Nugegoda, D.S. Senanayake
College, Lyceum International School-Wattala, The Overseas School of Colombo,
Holy Family Convent- Colombo 4, Royal College, Methodist College and Elizabeth
Moir School attended the workshop, who were a part of their School delegation
for COMUN 2012.
A presentation on Green Life
Projects was carried out after which each school was individually consulted
about their respective projects. Recycling, composting, energy conservation,
awareness programs and workshops, building of solar cookers etc were some of
the very unique ideas presented by the delegates. Each school delegation is
expected to carry out their respective projects which will then be judged by
the founders of the Road to Rio+20 Campaign in Sri Lanka together with the
Executive Committee of COMUN 2012, to present The Best Green Life Project Award
at the closing ceremony of the COMUN 2012 Conference.
For
the Delegates it was a pleasant experience as they learned a lot from the
workshop, such as networking, how to manage a project and so on. Few of the
attendees were interested in volunteering to the campaign.
